I think the obsession with perfecting minutia is very unhealthy and illogical. Everything is so incredibly fucked up that going off and iterating over and over on some little thing is usually not the best bang for your buck. Certainly in game development you usually want to attack your biggest flaws, which are all over in systems that people don't usually spend much time on (UI, load times, controls, etc.) At RAD I'm seeing some of the upside to iterating on minutia. When you make one really great tool, even if it is rather narrow in focus and everything around it still sucks, it means you can use that one tool with confidence and not worry about it sucking.
